Turning Awareness into Community Action in Tripura

Miracle Foundation India, together with its partner, Voluntary Health Association of Tripura, is supporting communities in Tripura to recognize risks, protect children and take action within their villages. In July, conversations with community members in Kalshimura (Sepahijala district) and Satdhubia (West Tripura district) moved beyond discussing child rights, with participants reflecting on issues affecting children, including school retention, child marriage and nutrition. They identified actions they could take, committing to speak up about harmful practices and support children in their villages.

This sense of ownership carried into a Panchayat Convergence Meeting on July 15, 2026, in West Tripura district, bringing together Panchayat and school representatives, frontline workers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Bal Panchayat members and government department representatives from four Gram Panchayats—Madhya Debendranagar, Uttar Majlishpur, Durganagar and Purba Debendranagar—to strengthen coordination around child protection. SHG members committed to bringing child protection and child marriage prevention into their regular meetings, while Panchayat representatives and community members pledged to report suspected child marriages and take preventive action.

Together, these commitments are helping turn awareness into action and strengthening community ownership of child protection.
