In a small village in East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, 17-year-old Pradeep once found himself standing at a difficult crossroads. After his father passed away, the stability of the family began to unravel. His elderly mother was unable to work, and the household depended entirely on his grandfather’s irregular daily wages. Without identity documents or access to government welfare schemes, even meeting basic needs became a daily challenge. For Pradeep, the possibility of continuing his education began to feel uncertain.
In situations like this, families are often forced to make heartbreaking decisions. Across many communities, financial hardship can push children away from their homes and into institutional care, not because families want that, but because they see no other way forward.
When Pradeep’s situation came to light, Miracle Foundation India, along with its partner, Bal Kalyan Sangh, began working closely with the family to strengthen the support around them before the crisis deepened. Social workers supported the family in securing identity documents, accessing government schemes, and planning for greater financial stability. Pradeep was connected to the Sponsorship Scheme to continue his education, while the family received seeds through the Didi Baadi Yojana to begin small-scale farming. They were also supported in applying for the Abua Awas Yojana to improve their living conditions.
The changes did not happen overnight. But with consistent guidance, encouragement, and practical support, the family slowly began to regain stability. For Pradeep, this meant something invaluable: the chance to stay in school and focus on his future.
Today, Pradeep continues his education with renewed confidence. He has also begun taking on a leadership role among youth in his community, participating in training programs and encouraging other children to stay in school and pursue their aspirations. Pradeep’s journey shows that when families receive the right support at the right time, children do not have to leave their homes to find safety and opportunity; they can grow, learn, and build their futures right where they belong.
