Subroto Chatterjee

Subroto is a passionate development professional with 15 years of hands-on experience of different development issues i.e. public health, disaster management, education, protection, and child rights, and has been working with children and youth in difficult circumstances such as street children, for the rights of children of sex workers, children affected by Tsunami, children confit with low, children infected and affected with HIV/AIDS and Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). He leads Miracle Foundation India’s program across six states, namely Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tripura, including UNICEF India-supported interventions. He holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai.

Calling for social development has taken him from his birthplace of Varanasi to the islands of the Andaman, the historical state of Uttar Pradesh, the land of monasteries – Bihar, Maharashtra, and finally to the capital of India – New Delhi. As part of his professional assignments, He likes to visit different parts of India and meet with varied groups of people – unheard and unnoticed.

He carries a map in his heart and once in a while disappears to a place which features in no atlas. A thousand bones be broken but his friendship with his bike is sealed for a lifetime. Photography is his hobby and in his journey from one space to another, he tries to capture the snapshots of life – stories of pain and joy and the spirit of living life. It awakens his soul and helps him to start again with hope.
