The Mukta Child Care Institution (CCI) for girls joined the Miracle Foundation family on Mother’s Day in May 2014. Located in the Indian state of Maharashtra, it is home to 46 girls. Mukta is the brainchild of Ms. Jyoti Patkar. Ms. Patkar, founding member of Parivartan Mahila Sanstha, has been working in the rural and tribal areas of her district for many years.

In 2005, Ms. Patkar was approached by some locals to establish a CCI with funding from the Lions Club. The home began with six young girls of single parents. With the support and encouragement of the local community, Ms. Patkar began collecting in-kind donations from friends and supporters. Today, Mukta has excellent support from the community and is recognized for the good values that the girls in the home are brought up with.

The girls at Mukta are between 8-18 years of age. The home does not phase out the stay for girls who are older than 18. Instead, Ms. Patkar encourages them to complete their higher education, in turn helping them create a stable and successful future for themselves.

The campus is located in a residential area, with a private school in the neighborhood. The building has three floors. They have an operational kitchen, recreation room, computer lab, tailoring classroom and huge rooftop terrace. Mukta has an all-female staff, and they are extremely careful about the safety of the girls.

A bunch of movie buffs, these girls are disciplined, expressive, worldly, wise and responsible. They feel safe and loved at their CCI. The girls have a warm, friendly interaction with each other and radiate happiness when you speak to them. They support and respect the family that Mukta has been to them.
