District-Level Convergence Meeting Strengthens Push for Family-Based Child Care in Dharashiv, Maharashtra

A landmark district-level convergence meeting was held on June 24, 2025, in Dharashiv, Maharashtra, to strengthen family and family-based alternative care for children from vulnerable communities under the Mission Vatsalya initiative. Miracle Foundation India led the meeting in collaboration with the District Women and Child Development Department (DWCD), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and UNICEF.

The event brought together over 100 representatives from key stakeholders, including DWCD, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Special Juvenile Police Unit (SJPU), Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Childline, Child Care Institutions (CCIs), Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), Taluka Protection Officers, and several NGOs operating in the district. The meeting focused on identifying urgent child protection concerns, strengthening gatekeeping systems, and promoting interdepartmental collaboration to advance family strengthening and child welfare. Activating the District Child Protection Committee emerged as a key item on the agenda.

This convergence marks a crucial step in advancing a family-first model of child care in Dharashiv. It reflects a shared commitment across government, legal, and civil society sectors to uphold the rights, dignity, and well-being of every child through coordinated, community-driven solutions.
