Radhi’s (name changed) journey highlights the power of timely interventions and a family-centered approach to transforming lives. Born into a family of six in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Radhi was just seven when she and her two sisters were placed in a Child Care Institution (CCI) given their parents’ frequent relocations for work.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, just as Radhi’s family began to regain stability, and plans for her and her sister’s reintegration were underway, they faced a devastating loss with the passing of Radhi’s father. Despite the heartbreak, the family found strength through mental health support provided to Radhi’s mother and a carefully planned reunification process. In May 2022, Radhi, her sisters, and their brother who was placed in another CCI, were joyfully reunited with their mother, reigniting hope for a brighter future. Radhi’s mother secured employment as a house helper nearby, ensuring financial stability for the family.
The team helped Radhi’s mother access the Widow Pension scheme, providing ₹1,000 monthly support, enrolled her in the CM Health Insurance scheme with ₹5 lakh coverage, and connected her to the local Primary Health Center for healthcare services. To further enhance her livelihood, she was provided with a wet grinder to start a tiffin business, and plans are underway to provide a pushcart with the help of a self-help group to help expand her enterprise and ensure a stable income for the family.
Radhi, now in the 11th Grade, has become a pillar of strength for her mother, balancing her education with family responsibilities. Driven by her passion for graphic design, she dreams of creating a brighter future for her family. Radhi’s story embodies the belief that every child deserves a family that supports and empowers them to reach their full potential. It’s a powerful reminder of how, with collaboration, we can ensure a family for every child and a future full of possibilities.
