Who are the individuals who serve as mothers to the children in our homes? Some are young and leave when their families arrange a marriage. Some are older women with grown children. Others are widows. All must have completed at least standard ten in school, the equivalent in India to a high school diploma.

At Anwesha, the house mothers already had the habit of playing with the children as well as caring for them. While we can never replace the mothers these children have lost, we can train and support the women who choose to serve as house mothers in our homes.
