
Dr. Nilima Mehta has over forty years of extensive experience in the areas of Child Rights, Child Protection, and Family-Based Alternative Care. She has been associated both nationally and internationally with policy development, legislative reforms, training, research, and documentation in the field of child protection. She had the privilege of participating as an Indian delegate at the consultation in Brazil for the development of Guidelines on Alternative Care for Children.
At the practice level, Dr. Nilima has been associated with several organizations, including UNICEF, Child Rights and You (CRY), CHILDLINE India Foundation, Leher, Vatsalya Foundation, the Indian Association for Promotion of Adoption and Child Welfare (IAPA), and the Family Service Centre (FSC). She has also been a member of the Juvenile Justice Act Review Committee and was the first Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Mumbai.
As an academic, she has worked as a Visiting Professor at the College of Social Work (CSW), Nirmala Niketan, and Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey (SNDT) Women’s University, and as a Chair Professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Besides, she was a member of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Board of Studies of CSW-Nirmala Niketan, as well as the IRB and Academic Council of TISS.
