Celebrating Minal Doriya

At Miracle Foundation India, we celebrate the incredible social workforce that makes it possible for children to thrive in family-based care. This month, we highlight the inspiring work of Minal Doriya, a Protection Officer (Institutional Care), at the District Protection Child Unit in Surendranagar district, Gujarat.

Minal has played a key role in transforming child protection efforts, focusing on family strengthening and family-based care, while effectively using the Social Investigation Report and Individual Care Plan to assess children’s needs and linking over 3,500 children and families to their tailored social protection schemes. It has further empowered her to identify at-risk children, including those from single-parent households, and design impactful interventions. Her innovative initiatives, like introducing the ‘Mann ki Baat’ suggestion box, empower children in Child Care Institutions to voice their concerns and participate actively. Minal’s quick responses in critical cases, including the rescue and reintegration of a mentally challenged child from Rajasthan, and the safe return of two runaway children from Madhya Pradesh showcase her dedication.

Through her efforts, she has effectively engaged key stakeholders, including Village-Level Child Protection Committee members, Bal Panchayat members, and community workers, to raise awareness about child protection measures and prevention strategies. During COVID-19, Minal took the initiative to transition 31 children from two CCIs back to family-based care. Through the Gujarat Government’s sponsorship scheme, she secured financial assistance of ₹3,000 per month for 31 of these children, providing their families with much-needed support.

Recognized for her expertise, Minal was selected as a Master Trainer in 2022 by Miracle Foundation India, under the joint partnership program of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Gujarat, and UNICEF India where she has been committed to building the capacity of new team members while her efforts continue to redefine child protection practices in the district, ensuring that children grow and thrive within the safety and love of their families.
